The experimental, author-led eco-educational project “Trees Under Microscope” is the first project from Armenia to reach the final stage of the European Commission’s #ForOurPlanet international competition.
Held under the slogan “Big changes start small,” the #ForOurPlanet 2026 competition brings together projects from different countries that offer practical solutions to environmental challenges.
The goal of “Trees Under Microscope” project is to foster conscious care and responsibility toward nature among children in Armenia, highlight the uniqueness of Armenia’s biodiversity, and stimulate children’s interest in science. The project has been implemented since 2024.
The idea belongs to ecologist Nelli Yeghoyan, who founded an eco-education center in 2023 aimed at promoting environmental education in Armenia. So far, more than 700 children have participated in the project, including displaced children from Artsakh and children from rehabilitation centers.
In the near future, Nelli Yeghoyan plans to establish an Eco-Educational Garden-a dedicated learning space that will feature endemic tree species of Armenia.
The winner of the #ForOurPlanet international competition will be determined through a combined format: 50% public voting and 50% jury evaluation.
