EcoLur Publishes New Report: “Preconditions for Introduction of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) System in Communities”

EcoLur Informational NGO has examined the preconditions for introducing the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system in communities across Armenia and has summarized the findings in a new report.

The report entitled “Preconditions for Introduction of EPR System in Communities,” aims to identify waste management challenges using the communities of Hrazdan and Abovyan in Kotayk Region, and Metsamor in Armavir Region as case studies, while contributing to the introduction of the EPR system at the community level.

The selected communities were chosen based on their experience in source separation of waste, the presence of recycling companies, and the fact that two of the communities are served by the Hrazdan sanitary landfill.

The report examines Armenia's commitments under the Armenia–European Union Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) regarding the implementation of the five-step waste management hierarchy and the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system.

The report is based on information drawn from the legislation of the Republic of Armenia governing the waste management sector, international agreements, international reports, responses to information requests submitted to state and local authorities, interviews with experts in the field, and the outcomes of discussions held in the target communities.

The report entitled “Preconditions for Introduction of EPR System in Communities” is available here.
