On 11 September 2014 the executive approved Urban Sustainable Development Program Tranche 1 - project N 3 of land alienation and resettlement for the road section (expansion of Shirak Street/Arshakunyats Highway and Arshakunyats Avenue in Yerevan) – completion date – 30 June 2016. For this purpose the Armenian Government has received from the Asian Development Bank a loan of 48,640,000 AMD allotted for 32 years.

Under the program, 85 land areas will be project affected, thus including 70 households and an area of 26,580.38 m2. Because of the road construction, different sorts of vegetable loss will annually account for 588.648 kg, 3603 fruit trees and bushes will be affected, together with 274 timber trees and 188 decorative trees.

The total compensation of crops will make up 306,134 AMD, while the compensation of fruit trees and bushes will make up 108,901,882 AMD.

Tranche 1 doesn’t say anything about the damage to be caused to environment. Instead, in February 2014 the EIA of “Urban Sustainable Development Program – road junction, 2. Nor Shirak Street and Artashat highway, road junction, 3. Argavand intersection – Shirak Street” was submitted to “Environmental Expertise” SNCO of the Nature Protection Ministry.

The number of project affected trees in the EIA has been drastically reduced - a total of 127 trees.

We would like to call the attention of “Environmental Expertise” SNCO of the Nature Protection Ministry to this contradiction in the number of trees.
