Hydroelectric power plants in Armenia will soon pay a fee for used water. On June 2, the Government of the Republic of Armenia approved the legislative package on the water sector developed by Environment Ministry, which envisages, among a number of additions and amendments, the collection of nature use fees from hydropower plants. It will make up 0.1 AMD for 1 cubic meter. "The analysis and calculations prove that the volume of water used by hydropower plants averaged 6.2 billion m3 in 2017-2019.
"Consequently, the revenues to the state budget from the nature use fees at the set rate will increase by about 620 million AMD a year," RA Government's rationale justifies. Sevan-Hrazdan and Vorotan hydro complexes and 189 SHPPs are operated in Armenia.
