Construction of "Masrik-1" Solar Power Station Resumed

After a two-year hiatus, the construction of "Masrik-1" solar photovoltaic station has resumed in Mets Masrik settlement, Vardenis consolidated community. The construction was suspended due to the situation created by the 44-day war and the Covid-19 pandemic. "FRV MASRIK" CJSC, which is building the station, has already installed cabins in the area and earthworks are being carried out.

EcoLur team met with the head of Vardenis consolidated community Aharon Khachatryan, his adviser Khazhakn Mkrtchyan and the first deputy head of the community Karen Mkrtchyan, presented the analysis of the documents of the construction project of "Masrik-1" solar photovoltaic station. Issues of social benefits and harms of the affected community, environmental impact were discussed.

The analysys carried out by EcoLur used the data of official sources, the application and conclusion of the environmental impact assessment of the project, the relevant decisions of the government, their compliance with the financial organizations investing in the project: socio-ecological policies and standards of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Union (EU).

Community Head Aharon Khachatryan expressed his willingness to participate in the monitoring of the process. EcoLur also had a meeting with the administrative head of Mets Masrik, Armen Asatryan, representatives of the local staff and residents, to discuss the obligations and issues of social support within the framework of "Masrik-1" solar plant construction project. The administrative head of Mets Masrik, Armen Asatryan, informed that the settlement already has a signed contract with the company, in which there is a line about making investments in Mets Masrik.
