The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) will allocate USD 37 million to build 11 solar power plants with a total capacity of up to 65 MW in Gegharkunik and Aragatsotn Regions, as we learn from the bank's official website. According to the bank's press release, the relevant documents were signed in Yerevan by Nikolai Podguzov, Chairman of Management Board, and Hayk Harutyunyan, Chair of "New Energy" group of companies.
The operation of the power plants is planned already this year. The return of investments will be made from the payments received on the basis of electricity sales contracts, which will be signed between the borrowers and "Electric Networks of Armenia" CJSC.
The potential of solar power plants in Armenia is estimated at 8 GW. The average annual duration of solar hours is 2700 days, and the average annual flow of solar energy makes up about 1720 kWh per 1 square meter of horizontal surface (the European average amounts to 1000 kWh per square meter). A quarter of the republic's territory is endowed with solar energy reserves of 1850 kWh per square meter per year," the press release says.
