EcoLur and WWF Armenia Signed Agreement on Collaboration within LILA project

EcoLur joined the team implementing “Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia (LILA)” project.

The project is funded by the Government of Switzerland through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and implemented by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Caucasus and Armenian offices in collaboration with Strategic Development Agency (SDA) NGO.

On July 3, 2023, Karen Manvelyan, Director of WWF Armenia, and Inga Zarafyan, President of "EcoLur" Informational NGO, signed an agreement on the collaboration within the framework of the Project.

The project is implemented in Pambak and Tumanyan, Lori Region, in Sisian, Syunik Region, Yeghegis and Yeghegnadzor, Vayots Dzor Region, Dilijan and Ijevan communities, Tavush Region. The selection of project communities was carried out considering the geography of the target communities of the existing "Promotion of Ecological Corridors" environmental program. The eco-corridors project is financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) of the Federal Republic of Germany through the KfW Bank and is implemented by the Caucasus Office of WWF.

The goal of the LILA project is to ensure the living conditions of the rural population through the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources in the mountain ecosystems of Armenia. In mountainous rural communities, the Project will introduce economic incentives for the sustainable use of natural resources. It will contribute to the implementation of steps aimed at mitigating climate change and increasing adaptation, particularly by introducing sustainable forest and pasture management practices and developing capacities in communities. The project will promote the development of tourism by reducing dependence on agriculture and animal husbandry.

In the development of agricultural tourism, great focus will be paid to women, socially disadvantaged families and neglected groups to promote their social involvement and reduce the level of poverty.

Within the framework of the project, EcoLur will establish a public journalism network. Active residents of rural settlements will enjoy the opportunity, after passing training courses, to participate and become public correspondents of EcoLur in the regions, personally informing about the socio-ecological problems, events, and developments of their settlements using modern information technologies.

A media tour will be organized, within the framework of which the journalists will have the opportunity to visit the target communities, get acquainted with the people involved in the Project, the problems that the locals have faced and what support they have received to overcome these problems within the framework of the LILA project.

Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia (LILA) is a 7-year project aimed at preserving the livelihoods of the rural population of Armenia through protection and sustainable use of natural resources in mountainous ecosystems of Armenia. The project is funded by the Government of Switzerland through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and implemented by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Caucasus and Armenian offices in collaboration with Strategic Development Agency (SDA) NGO. The project is complementary to and builds on synergies with Ecoregional Corridors Programme in the South Caucasus (ECF), funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the KfW Development Bank and implemented by WWF Caucasus (WWF-Armenia in Armenia).
