‘Metsamor nuclear power plant is constructed according to quakeproof technology and has many protection levels, and the quake of 1988 didn’t affect its operation. “Fukushima” has suffered not from the earthquake, but the tsunami. Our plant has an emergency diesel pump for cooling system. Besides, the reactor in Fukushima refers to “boiling” single-circuit type, while our plant operates under pressure and has a horizontal heat-generator capable of cooling the reactor for 4-8 hours without external source of water,” said Suren Bznuni, Associate Professor at Nuclear Physics Department of Yerevan State University.
