Government found recently: Ararat Artesian Basin polluted. The Armenian Government is taking measures to save the artesian basin in Ararat Valley from pollution. In this regard, the executive made amendments to one of its earlier amendments to reduce the pollution sources of underground water resources and senseless losses. The resolution rationale says, "Over 5O% of the groundwater sources in Armenia is concentrated in the artesian basin in Ararat Valley and has significant resources for the economic development of Armavir and Ararat Regions. During dozens of years many deep wells have been drilled. The drilled wells are characterized with positive and negative levels of pressure waters.

Most drilled wells with negative level are illegally used with the help of pumps. They are filled with various solid and liquid wastes and pollute them. As result, the mineralization of water increases together with the concentration of polluting and toxic components, which result in having waters not fit for drinking or using for other economic purposes. The pollution of the underground poses greater danger their their exhaustion.
