Executive Director of “Araks” WUC, Armavir Region, Ashot Gevorgyan raised the need to drill new deep wells in the area at the discussion held in Dilijan on 12 June. “In my area I have at least five places, where deep wells are needed to be drilled, which will enable providing water to arid land areas,” Ashot Gevorgyan said. In reply, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Water Industry Vladimir Narimanyan said, “It’s not possible: I don’t think the need to drill a new well is that true. Since 2011 the government has been running a policy of not issuing new water usage permits of deep wells in Ararat Valley. We can look into details and put forward the optimum option without drilling a new well.” Vladimir Narimanyan noted that currently Ararat Valley as 3518 deep wells, out of which 1100 are technically non-usable, some of them are subject to liquidation, the rest is subject to conservation.
