Large Green Zone Needed to Ararat Cement Plant

Ararat residents are asking the country authorities to create a large green zone in situ that will mitigate the emissions of Ararat cement plant into atmosphere. “Ararat town is considered desert, semi-desert zone, and the problem of water is always actual here, and this won’t definitely get any solutions. There is no water. The problem is to have a forest layer under national programs. Before projecting any cement plant, the plant should have its alienation zone – the green zone. The green zone could facilitate many things,” said Ararat Municipality Chief Architect Hrach Davtyan at the meeting with “EcoLur” working group. He mentioned that the cement plant wanted to create a green zone in the territory of the plant, but it required many expenses.

“There used to be two plants. The plant located downwards operated in completely another scheme, the emissions were rather law because of applying humid processing method. While the second plant operates with dry procession method based on thermal processing of the raw material, whether rather powerful filters should have been installed so as to adsorb fine dust and emitted metals that the dust contains in the form of oxides. Now if the production is expanding, it means the filters should be focused on,” said teacher Gohar Martirosyan.

It should be mentioned the official website of Ararat cement plant doesn’t have any environmental section.
