The second stage of the industrial fishing season in Lake Sevan ends on September 1. It was launched on March 25, 2021.
As RA Environment Ministry informs, according to the 2020 figures provided by National Academy of Sciences, the total mass of whitefish in Lake Sevan amounted to 2345 tons, out of which the total industrial stock was about 586.2 tons, out of which whitefish hunting for 2021 was set at a maximum of 250 tons within the second experimental phase.
According to the current data, summarizing the second season of "Industrial experimental whitefish fishing in Lake Sevan", we record that by submitting applications in accordance with RA Law on “On Sevan National Park" SNCO, 303 contracts were signed with Environment Ministry for fishing about 221 tons and 164 kg of fish. 25 entry points were set up for hunting, but the lake was accessed from 19 spots.
Reminder: according to the results of the studies provided by the Center for Zoology and Hydroecology of NAS RA to EcoLur, the fish stock in Lake Sevan has significantly decreased. If in 2013-2018 the total biomass of fish increased year by year, from 1296 tons to 2948 tons, then after 2018 it decreased to 2668 tons in 2019 and 2345 tons in 2020. In the same way, the industrial production of fish decreased to 667 and 586 tons, respectively.
The Center for Zoology and Hydroecology of NAS RA conducts an annual assessment of fish and crayfish stocks within the framework of a contract signed with Environment Ministry.
