The Ministry of internal affairs of Georgia is going to build the police building in the middle of the recitational zone of the city which served for ages as one of the main green areas for the district…It turned out that the Architectural department of Tbilisi has given the legal right to build the new administrative building of police in one of the recreational zones of the city. But this legal act does not come in correspondence with the legislation. The position of the city council is absolutely indifferent. The protest actions are still going on and the complaints have been sited to the legal institutions.
Meanwhile the Ministry of Environment has announced the contest for the best “Green Creative” photo.
There are lots of photos that are promoted on the social websites and on their own web site. We want to express the protest against the illegal construction and an absolute carelessness towards the green recreational zones of the city from the Ministry of Environment of Georgia, who states that it’s not their competency to protect the recreational zones in Tbilisi.
City dwellers together with non-governmental organizations are still protesting the building on the spot. Today some of the peaceful protesters have been arrested by the police. Here we again faced another violation of human rights of free assembly and self expression.
